What are your first thoughts when you hear the words ‘peace’ or ‘pleasure’? For some, the words may be associated with each other even possibly used interchangeably, but in reality, there is a very distinct difference as observed by Jay Shetty.
You may have heard about CBD (Cannabidiol) but perhaps aren’t sure of what it is, where it comes from or what it can be used for. There are also lots of misconceptions when it comes to CBD and myths associated with it. So, let’s explore just what CBD is and how by harnessing the power of nature, Maxx4 Life has become an industry leader in its field.
There is sometimes confusion about where CBD comes from, is this from hemp or cannabis plants? The short answer is that they derive from different varieties of the Cannabis Sativa plan and the confusion really relates to the plant’s classification.
Hemp plants generally contain more CBD whereas cannabis plants tend to contain more tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Although CBD was first discovered in 1940, the therapeutic use of the cannabis plant was first documented in 2800 BC, when it was listed in Emperor Shen Nung’s pharmacopoeia, who was widely regarded as the father of Chinese medicine.
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD is just one of more than 100 natural chemical compounds found within hemp or cannabis plants – which are known as cannabinoids.
Perhaps the most well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, which is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, which when consumed can produce the feeling of being ‘high’. Although the chemical compound of THC is very similar to CBD, CBD actually combats the effects of THC.
There is often a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to CBD products with some believing that THC is present in significant quantities to get you ‘high’. However, although Hemp may contain traces of THC (at the most 0.3%) there is not enough present to trigger the effects associated with drowsiness or high.
CBD is completely legal in the UK, provided it has been derived from an industrial hemp strain, is EU approved and is naturally low in THC (less than 0.2%). It is neither an illegal drug nor is it a medicine.
In 2019, in a bid to combat poor quality products the EU listed CBD as a ‘Novel Food’ in the UK. As such the Food Standard’s Agency (FSA) now requires companies to submit applications to either continue selling CBD products or apply for a Novel Food license if they wish to start selling CBD products.
A Novel Food licence aims to ensure that all CBD products are:
Its mission is to ensure quality products are verified and production is regulated to provide customer reassurance and end the mislabelling of sub-standard products.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a complex cell-signalling system throughout your body and brain plays a role in regulating a range of bodily functions and processes such as:
The regulation of these functions contributes to ‘homeostasis’ or balance within the body. Any disturbance to this such as pain from an injury, your ECS steps in to help return your body to its level position.
There are two types of sensory receptors within the ECS, CB1, found mostly in the brain and spinal cord, and CB2, which are more commonly found within the immune system and whose role is centred on reducing inflammation around the body.
CBD can replicate the function of naturally occurring fats (lipids) within the human body and as such can help support your endocannabinoid system (ECS).
As we also use the whole of the plant in our products, this means hemp seeds are also processed within the extraction process. Hemp seeds boast a wide range of beneficial properties such as L-Arganine, Linoleic Acid and Omega’s 3 and 6.
L-Arganine is an amino acid that helps your body build protein and rebuild tissue and as a result, has been investigated in its effectiveness in the treatment of severe wounds. It also changes into nitric oxide (NO) when in the body, which helps blood vessels relax and can improve blood flow in the arteries of the heart. Likewise, linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid that is shown to play a special role in supporting heart health.
At Maxx4, we know the benefits of using the whole of the plant in producing our CBD products and combine these with premium, organic sunflower oil which boasts a wide range of health benefits from improving heart health, immune systems, digestion and skin health.
At Maxx4 we have been driving standards within our industry for over 15 years and place integrity and standards at the heart of all of our research and products. We are one of the first CBD companies to complete the Novel Food licence application in the UK and we pride ourselves on both our organic status as well as our roots firmly placed in biochemistry.
With our crops being planted in the Mediterranean, we are able to grow completely organic and premium quality ingredients without the unnecessary use of chemicals to aid their growth. Our farms are all graded as ‘organic’ and as such boast nutrient-dense soil which ensures our plants are grown to the highest quality. We use the whole of the plant in our production of CBD products, which guarantees a more potent, organic product, compared to some producers who only use the top few leaves of the plant.
Our advanced extraction processes use only CO2 extraction methods, meaning that we do not add any allergens or toxins which can interfere or degrade the product, ensuring you only receive the purest CBD products.
CO2 extraction is the safest and cleanest method in extracting CBD compared to other traditional methods such as solvent extraction which uses food-grade ethanol or a hydrocarbon such as propane, steam distillation or olive oil extraction. CO2 is commonly used in other food areas such as extracting spices and flavours and even decaffeinating coffee beans as a safe and effective way of extraction without jeopardising the integrity or quality of the product.
At Maxx4 we have developed a superior range of CBD products to support your busy lifestyle.
