Staff from BMI The Park Hospital, based in Nottingham, have been recognised for their critical work during the pandemic in delivering lifesaving treatment to cancer and cardiac patients.

During the pandemic, Park Hospital colleagues partnered with local NHS Trusts across Nottingham to deliver urgent cancer and cardiac procedures to critically ill patients, transforming themselves into a specialist NHS cancer centre, for which many complex surgeries would have only previously been undertaken in major teaching hospitals.

In total, the clinical team at The Park Hospital carried out over 10,000 treatments and supported over 35,000 patients including those with breast, kidney, liver, pancreatic, throat, thyroid and bowel cancers. The Park Hospital now boasts the largest high-dependency unit in a private hospital outside of London.

The ‘Hospital Group’ award was presented to Circle Health Group and is only presented to organisations that have demonstrated excellence in the delivery of care, as well as both innovation and transformation during challenging times.

Amanda Dorkes, executive director at The Park Hospital, told a recent interview, “We are extremely proud of the teams at The Park Hospital for all their hard work through what has been the most challenging of times for healthcare services.

“From our patient-facing staff, through to our administration team, porters, catering teams and housekeepers, everybody pulled together to support those in our community who were in urgent need of care.

“Working alongside our colleagues in local NHS trust hospitals was a privilege, and the care we assisted them in delivering for urgent cancer and cardiac services would not have been possible without the dedication of our staff.

“Winning an accolade like this is testament to the commitment of all our teams across the hospital.”
